Focused Friday:
This Friday my focus is taking a look at what it means to Re-humanize Mental Health!
The field of psychology and psychiatry has a long and arduous history and it is important to take a look at the growth, development and implementation of mental health therapeutic study, research, diagnosing and care over the last several decades.
Now more than ever, it is critical that we focus on seeing human beings holistically and recognizing the unique variables that impact and influence what we call mental health. Society, culture, environment, family system, friend group, nutrition, physical fitness, sleep, spiritual health, time in nature, etc. To truly understand ourselves and our fellow humans, we need to expand our view of mental health to see the whole person, biopsychosociospiritually.
And even more important we need to recognize how our language, verbiage and cognitive narratives about mental health impact our holistic health in general.
Dr. Bruce Levine received his PhD from the University of Cincinnati and is a practicing clinical psychologist often at odds with the mainstream of his profession. Dr. Levine focuses on where the arenas of society, culture, politics and psychology intersect.
